Posted in the replies to Molly's thread about the time Andy tried to infiltrate her friend group in 2018. At the Pit: https://tf-talk.dreamwidth.org/600.html?thread=1680984#cmt1680984
"Came across this as someone in our costume community here in LA just shared who this person named "Andrew Blake" is and warned us to beware. It all started with him taking money, not returning a dress or give truthful updates. They blasted him on FB. Everyone is quite distutbed. "
My firewall doesn't seem to want to let me open twitter links. Is there a way to sum up the gist of the incidents(s) without violating anyone's privacy?
I just found it in a public Facebook group: https://i.imgur.com/JdsRway.png
(I cut out a bunch of irrelevant comments in the interest of brevity, but they were all either people giving advice after the situation was already resolved, or people commiserating with Andy.)
The gist is that this person (R) sent Andy a dress in February 2020 and he agreed to alter it in some way so she could wear it to a wedding. She paid him and he ghosted her for months, while she made numerous attempts at communication. Meg finally messaged her back.
When R made this public call-out post in September 2020, Andy responded and blamed it all on mental illness. Of course. The dress had totally been done for months and was all boxed up and ready to ship, but then he accidentally put into storage with his and Meg's stuff while they were shuffling around from one AirBnB to another. Executive dysfunction, procrastination, and shame combined and he just never got to it. But after the call-out post, he supposedly refunded R three times what she paid him, and Meg was going to hold him responsible (ironically making it her responsibility) for getting it out and shipping it the very next morning, so everything was going to be fine! And btw, he's still seeing a therapist and making progress, so no need to worry about that.
What Andy is saying sounds somewhat legitimate, and I can kinda relate to it as a person who struggles with executive dysfunction...but these things just seem to happen so often to Andy, and always with things that other people need from him. If it's for his actual employer or a professional contract, he'll work around the clock and sometimes enlist a small army of friends to make it happen. If it's for a pro cosplayer, model, etc., or for an event he and Meg want to attend, he'll get it done. The people who suffer tend to be the ones who aren't in the industry, in his immediate circle, or highly visible on social media. And it's always mental illness--it's not Andy's fault! He's fighting so hard! And people always rally 'round in the comments to empathize. Again, I cut those out of the screenshot for brevity's sake, but there were a lot of them. So frustrating.
The tweets linked were made about a week after the call-out post, which suggests that the friend of R's who tweeted may not have been updated on the situation.
Wow. Thanks for the summary. But still- Wow. I hope R wasn't too inconvenienced and was able to get another dress for the wedding she was attending. Frickin' Andy, though! Same old crap, different day, different victims.
Andy in LA: October 2020, missing dress+money
