Gloves Off

Please use this post for discussion of those contentious, murky, triggering issues too complex to discuss/moderate on the main post.

Note that this post is NOT a free-for-all and will still be modded for slurs, namecalling, doxxing and trolling. But fair warning that it will not be moderated for discussion of issues some find triggering (trans issues, mental illness, etc.) and that if you choose to participate here, you do so at your own risk.

This thread is aimed at appreciating the good TB has done. That's it. There is no claim she's beyond criticism, that she deserves only praise, that she was right in every instance, or anything of that nature. All of those things can be done in any other thread.

TB has apologized. She's also been told to kill herself and that she deserves to have awful things happen to her. This is crazy and out of line. I created this thread to counter that viciousness, and to show her that whatever her mistakes, there are still people who appreciate her work and will happy to welcome her back. If you don't share that perspective, that's fine. You don't have have to.

However, the fact that you can't even bring yourself not to sabotage and disrupt the one thread acknowledging the good she done she done, intended to cheer her up after she's been told to kill herself, is pretty fucking telling.

I cannot tell you how disheartening this is. I am this fucking close to throwing my hands up and abandoning my AA project and the AA "community" in general, because the behavior I've witnessed over the past few has been appalling. And yes, it's almost certainly coming from just a few people, but the actions of the toxic few have been so oft-putting it barely feels worth it to stick around in the current environment.

+1

Though I think this is mainly the AA community going through growing pains (folks who previously were observers/bystanders on the sideline now having a platform to respond directly to namespace bloggers and potentially air older pent-up grievances), it's really not a pleasant thing to witness or be a part of.

I wouldn't say I'm likely to abandon the GDoc list of links, because it remains what it always was: a reference for myself when I want to go back and check something or link a friend to the newest WTFery.

But there's a reason none of this WTFery has been added, and it's because I feel the same way. This recent spate of infighting, trolling, sniping and general personal nastiness over stuff that is not even really about Andy is depressing, off-topic, and quite frankly boring. (Shallowest objection ever ahoy, but if I'm getting tired of seeing TF-talk notifications in my inbox...)

On-topic: TB, I've always found your analysis to be thoughtful, smart, and able to pick up on angles of bullshittery that others haven't even noticed. You do good things, and I think you do them from a well-meant place. We all make mistakes or stick a foot down our throats from time to time; don't let some people's overreactions (and some people's deliberately vicious trolling) get you down.

I appreciate this stuff getting moved out of the main post, but I almost wish the mods would ban this kind of thing as non-Andy-related altogether. I understand that people might have feelings about delwyn's old posts that they haven't felt like they had a place to post about before now, but damn if it isn't totally outside my area of interest. I'd rather this spot go totally dead for long periods than be sustained by this kind of irrelevant, petty crap.

FFA has always been there. They could have posted a thread about him anytime they wanted. They can do it now. Their whining about having nowhere to speak up is a smokescreen.
