That's what I thought. I know that there are more docs doing informed consent HRT, but I have yet to hear about any that do informed consent top surgery. If that were the case I feel like tumblr would be signal boosting the crap out of them, y'know?

My current theory is that Andy had this set up well in advance, and when doc calls to confirm surgery appointment, he either a) legitimately forgot and panicked, or b) decided to spin this for more ways of seeking control over people.

And I seriously doubt he'll change his ways much, either. Like... an asshole still has the right to get dysphoria-alleviating procedures, but that doesn't mean they'll stop being an asshole. To imply that it will implies that all of Andy's issues stem solely from dysphoria, which could lead to some pretty nasty generalizations about trans people in general. He's an asshole AND trans, not an asshole BECAUSE he's trans.

I feel the same way; he likely either already had the money or purposefully put off saving just so he could maximize drama. That ~last minute generous donor~ is likely himself or his parents (who were probably already planning on giving him the money).


Also agree that getting surgery is unlikely to make him not an abuser.

You said everything I wanted to say, elegantly and succinctly. Like, call me sour grapes, but I'm not inclined to wish him well on his surgery, because it sounds like he got the money for it in this really gross way. Also, I mean, if assholery could be surgically corrected, you'd think they'd be shouting it from the rooftops!
