This reads like an ask he sent himself in order to have a platform to protest TOO MUCH. If anything, this only convinces me further that he does have a diagnosis of NPD and is desperate to distance himself from it as much as possible.

+1 I have always thought this as well. He's happy to claim all sorts of stigmatized mental illnesses to excuse his behavior, but not *that* one. Wouldn't suit his needs.

Yeah, generally speaking NPD is not something people have any sympathy for or willingness to understand, so there's no way being honest is going to be of much benefit to him. But the joke is: if he just came right out with it and was honest about it, that he had this diagnosis and that it has influenced his past abuse of others and the lies he's told/decisions he's made -- making an effort to be at least a little transparent about it -- people would likely have a little more sympathy for him. I know I would if he just copped to all of it. But I suppose that possibility is excluded purely because he probably DOES have NPD. Anyone with something like that is going to want to self-preserve as much as possible and at the detriment of others.
