Gloves Off

Please use this post for discussion of those contentious, murky, triggering issues too complex to discuss/moderate on the main post.

Note that this post is NOT a free-for-all and will still be modded for slurs, namecalling, doxxing and trolling. But fair warning that it will not be moderated for discussion of issues some find triggering (trans issues, mental illness, etc.) and that if you choose to participate here, you do so at your own risk.

What part of "criticism and recent events can go in any other thread" was not clear?

To reiterate: there are dozens of other threads to hash the issues out in. You can even make your very own if you like. To come and start an off-topic discussion after a polite request not to is wanky regardless the merits of your position. Please do not do it.

I highly doubt TB will see this but I want to express my support for TeaBlogger too. She's done stirling work and I have an awful lot of respect and admiration for all she's achieved. I hope she'll stick around, her voice would be a serious loss to the AA cause.

Perhaps a praise-only appreciation thread for someone who has done something extremely questionable and credibility-destroying would be better off in your own journal, where you can control the types of replies you get.

Instead of a general forum where not everyone will agree that praise only is merited in this instance.

Credibility destroying only to a single person it seems.

Sea lioning?

Agreed though, it seems to be a single individual who is unable to forgive or even allow others to discuss TB positively in their own space.

You don't understand the concept of "appreciation", do you?

DA

I get that it sucks to have your comment misinterpreted, but it was literally a single anonymously-posted sentence using a hot-button word that had been being debated all thread. It's not for nothing that "it's hard to read tone on the internet" is a truism.

Personally I like TB even more now that she's shown that she is willing to reevaluate her opinions and publicly admit fault when necessary.

I'd be interested to know whether the comment I'm replying to has a posse, or anonymiser, IP. Describing TB's actions as "credibility destroying" seems like the kind of ridiculous over-reaction that would suit Andy & co. down to the ground.

Look, I side-eyed TB for that post, and said as much here. As other anons have pointed out, Andy and Meg put us in a lose-lose-lose situation, and I think TB over-reacted when we (naturally) lost. I don't think being upset with her for that is an over-reaction, but to throw out all of the meticulous research she's done because of it? To even suggest that that research is somehow tainted because she got upset that Meg kicked off?

Yeah, no, if you're not an Andy supporter then either get a fucking grip, or get back to tumblr and its "your fave is problematic" bullshit.

I can confirm that this is not a newcomer/likely troll, sketchy IP, or posse member/suspected posse member.

This thread is aimed at appreciating the good TB has done. That's it. There is no claim she's beyond criticism, that she deserves only praise, that she was right in every instance, or anything of that nature. All of those things can be done in any other thread.

TB has apologized. She's also been told to kill herself and that she deserves to have awful things happen to her. This is crazy and out of line. I created this thread to counter that viciousness, and to show her that whatever her mistakes, there are still people who appreciate her work and will happy to welcome her back. If you don't share that perspective, that's fine. You don't have have to.

However, the fact that you can't even bring yourself not to sabotage and disrupt the one thread acknowledging the good she done she done, intended to cheer her up after she's been told to kill herself, is pretty fucking telling.

I cannot tell you how disheartening this is. I am this fucking close to throwing my hands up and abandoning my AA project and the AA "community" in general, because the behavior I've witnessed over the past few has been appalling. And yes, it's almost certainly coming from just a few people, but the actions of the toxic few have been so oft-putting it barely feels worth it to stick around in the current environment.

+1

Though I think this is mainly the AA community going through growing pains (folks who previously were observers/bystanders on the sideline now having a platform to respond directly to namespace bloggers and potentially air older pent-up grievances), it's really not a pleasant thing to witness or be a part of.

I wouldn't say I'm likely to abandon the GDoc list of links, because it remains what it always was: a reference for myself when I want to go back and check something or link a friend to the newest WTFery.

But there's a reason none of this WTFery has been added, and it's because I feel the same way. This recent spate of infighting, trolling, sniping and general personal nastiness over stuff that is not even really about Andy is depressing, off-topic, and quite frankly boring. (Shallowest objection ever ahoy, but if I'm getting tired of seeing TF-talk notifications in my inbox...)

On-topic: TB, I've always found your analysis to be thoughtful, smart, and able to pick up on angles of bullshittery that others haven't even noticed. You do good things, and I think you do them from a well-meant place. We all make mistakes or stick a foot down our throats from time to time; don't let some people's overreactions (and some people's deliberately vicious trolling) get you down.

I appreciate this stuff getting moved out of the main post, but I almost wish the mods would ban this kind of thing as non-Andy-related altogether. I understand that people might have feelings about delwyn's old posts that they haven't felt like they had a place to post about before now, but damn if it isn't totally outside my area of interest. I'd rather this spot go totally dead for long periods than be sustained by this kind of irrelevant, petty crap.

FFA has always been there. They could have posted a thread about him anytime they wanted. They can do it now. Their whining about having nowhere to speak up is a smokescreen.

DA Nobody is claiming that only one person objected to TB's posts. A lot of people disagreed with those posts! However, it's one person being an asshole and derailing this specific thread, and you need to stop.

You're trying to derail a post designed to support someone who was told to kill herself. That's callous and selfish beyond belief. Take your concerns to another thread if you're not a troll and actually want to discuss other issues.

Re: Continued: TeaBlogger Appreciation Post

This is NOT a thread to discuss TB's post. If you want to do that, make a new thread about it or go to an old one, and stop mucking up a thread designed to helps someone who was told to commit suicide. Have some fucking decency.
