continued Thatfucker discussion

Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Andy & the Confederacy

Abbey replied to an ask about Andy's Confederate sympathies:

"kumquatwriter said:
I’ve no idea if it is legit. I do know that he used the “second civil war” as a major point when he was flooding me with Others not long before I escaped. He claimed that most of the factories that produce things like tractors and cigarettes could easily be switched over to produce tanks and bullets.

I don’t even know if factories like that exist in The South.

A bunch of his neo-X-men-from-1944 were direct decedents of major Confederate historical figures. There was a Lee, a Pickett, a Stuart and a Hill off the top of my head, and lots of others. He was super into the storyline."

I know Andy is obsessed with war but this is gross even for him.

He claimed that most of the factories that produce things like tractors and cigarettes could easily be switched over to produce tanks and bullets.

That just gave me chills. He's so creepy.

I suspect this is directly related to growing up in Virgina. Even if you are not pro-Confederacy, the stuff is lazy.

I'm in a different part of the state, but drive down Jefferson Davis Highway on my way to work, my commute takes me from Robert E Lee's childhood home to Arlington (which was once largely his property).

God forbid I go down to Richmond. There are enough people around descended from the Civil War era leaders that it's easy and lazy.

Similar to a group of people in LA all being the grandchildren of silent film actors.

Yeah, as a southerner, I'm not nearly as surprised about this as some others have been. The Confederacy is an easy go-to down here.

Also, supposedly Pickett knocked me up. You read that right, he talked me into a full on imaginary (dare I say hysterical) pregnancy, followed by the truly inevitable “hysterical” miscarriage - complete with heaps of REAL emotions…

YIKES. Abbey continues to really impress me with how she pulled herself out of that nightmare. (And YAY for her mom.)

I've been following this for years and this has to be one of the top 5 most heinous things he did.
