I saw that a few hours ago and thought "wow, what a convenient excuse!" This is really not good, because unless someone's managed to capture the contents of all of his LJs, a lot of crucial evidence is just going to disappear. Maybe with all of the stuff that's come to light this week he's finally panicking? I'd like to think all the new info that's coming out is actually having an effect on him and making him think twice about his behaviors but, this is Andy, so I doubt it.

With Andy starting to delete his LJs and MCU fandom shutting him the hell down in less than 12 hours, I'm starting to wonder how long before Andy decides to shed his "Thanfiction" identity and start over. He's done it before, and it's starting to seem pretty clear that his baggage/history is starting to outweigh the benefits he gains from being the author of DAYD & his other various fandom stuff under his AB identity.

Yes, of course. But I think with Andy, it goes farther than that. Sexual access is not an end in itself for people like him. Hit someone in their sexuality, and you've hurt them on the most intimate level. Control their sexuality, and you control them completely. Every cult does it.

Not being able to talk about them to most people is so strange for me that it feels like closeting and is the biggest barrier to me having “normal” friends, a “normal” life.

Just a thought, but MAYBE if your Harry Potter fanfiction is the single biggest barrier to you having a normal life, it's not healthy, and it's a sign you have a problem.

I don't believe Andy has any interest in learning how to engage with fiction in a healthy way, which means it'd be in the best interests of him and everybody else if he leave fandom and for good. I think it's pretty selfish and indicative of his character that he refuses to do that, knowing that he can't engage in a healthy manner and knowing that his MO is to draw other people into his unhealthy fantasies. When you know you have a problem with fandom -- and Andy has admitted he does -- you just look like a fuckhead when you continue to repeat the past. All of his apology posts are empty when his behavior directly and consistently contradicts the promises he's made.

And his "I'm withdrawing from fandom, I don't have the time" crap he's pulling is just more bullshit. He has repeatedly made overtures to other fandoms on the sly and when called out has hurried to spin some bullshit (like the MCU roleplay asks) to deflect from the truth. He'll never be done with fandom when it is and always has been the place he selects his victims.

I believe it's only a matter of time before he gives up "Thanfiction" as a lost cause and moves on to greener pastures. Let's just hope he isn't successful in initially hiding his identity.

A note from the mod

It looks like there's a couple of things I need to address, and it's probably best if I get them out of the way early:

1) I'm not interested in over-policing or restricting discussion here. What I am committed to, however, is making sure that the discussions here do not veer into invasive territory wrt to Andy's former and current victims. Discussion of Brittany, in particular, needs to remain sensitive. If we're going to discuss anything regarding Brittany, we need to stick to the facts and refrain from too much speculation. Tragically, Brittany is not here to defend herself or offer her version of events and it's important we remember this.

2) So far there's only one mod -- me -- and I'm not around all the time. I work several afternoons a week and do not have a job where it's practical for me to keep an eye on the community; I can only really have a quick look in on the goings-on here from my phone when I'm on my breaks. Additionally, I live in a part of the world where I'm asleep when many of you are awake.

I've been hesitant to ask for help until now as I wasn't sure if this community would even take off, or how busy it would be. But discussions here have been busy enough that I'd be remiss not to ask for help now. I know I'm not always going to be around to keep an eye on things and it'd be helpful to have at least one other mod here -- preferably one in a different timezone -- to ensure things are running smoothly. It's probably the best course of action rather than sitting back and letting things wankify in my absence.

If anyone here is interested in co-modding, please email me here (anonniemouse26@gmail.com) and we'll go from there. You'll probably need to identify yourself, or at least prove you're Not Andy or someone close to him, for integrity's sake and so that's something you'll need to be okay with. I agree, but it's a fine line. For example:

Fact: Brittany wrote a letter accusing her father of abuse.

Fact: This fits with Andy's established pattern of alienating children from their parents by creating or exaggerating memories of abuse, and having them write letters to their parents about it.

Speculation: Brittany's accusations of abuse may be partially or entirely fabricated.

Fact: There is no way to know for sure.

As long as the last fact is kept in mind, I don't think you should ban all discussions that deal with elements of speculation. The result may be that actual facts (like the first three) get lost in the process, and in some ways I think that does Brittany a disservice, because in many ways she's Andy's most unfortunate victim. She will never have the chance to reconnect with her parents.

I'm going to disagree with the above commenter who claims it's "invasive" to say Brittany was "off". It's not speculation; it's a demonstrable fact. It was Brittany who sent that undead shaman wizard emails about a 16th century dead guy trying to "eat" a real woman's children, revealing both their names and their address. She was "off" in the same sense that Abbey was, ie, she was the victim of a sociopathic manipulator who systematically destroyed her grip on reality. As a result, she made some terrible choices.

To discuss these facts or her relationship with Andrew Blake (the one who posted that video, by the way) is not to impune or disrespect her. Andy used Brittany while she was alive and he continues to use her memory after death, essentially rewriting history to whatever suits his purposes at the moment. You're playing right into his hands if any "speculation" about Andy's use and abuse of Brittany suddenly constitutes disrespecting the dead.

The difference is that Abbey is here to tell her story and Brittany is not. Discussion of Brittany is not off-limits by any means, but we need to draw a line somewhere and too much speculation feels invasive when Brittany isn't able to say anything at all.

That said, situations like this cropping up is why we need at least one other mod here. I'm not arrogant enough to believe that I can mod a community like this with only my own opinions to guide me.

I can fight mountains to the dust for the impossible. I can do anything for the big, mad dream against all odds. I can barely get out of bed for mediocrity. I would rather be surrounded by people determined to see me dead than by those content with doing being and pursuing nothing…in part because I would be less likely to be destroyed by it.

That is the biggest reason I couldn’t stay home. Not that the admired status quot and devout mediocrity was unbearable, but because I was afraid it would become so. A part of me always believed I might win the fight if they found out how unacceptable I was, but a bigger part was terrified that I would change to not need to. I can endure anything, I think, except apathy.

While short, this is one of the more illuminating posts from Andy I've seen, along with his creepy "Begit" thing with the list of his marks and how best to fuck their heads.

So there you go. Andy can't "get out of bed for mediocrity", which is probably why he's never been able to support himself or keep a job for any significant length of time. I guess it's much more exciting to pretend to be on the run from the IRA than work at Starbucks.

I try to be relatively detached with this stuff, at least in public, but every once in a while something sets me off--and since I'm still a little upset from having gone over the rabbit story again last night, this did it.

Andy's parents are a successful artist whose work is prominently displayed throughout their community and an emergency services worker who is so well-respected that he has a regional award named after him. His sister has done charity work around the world.

Andy has abused a laundry list of people, lied his ass off for over 15 years about every aspect of his life, and run two short-lived cults. He has failed to grow either as an artist or as a writer because he focuses on quick and easy ways to generate emotional responses rather than on honing his craft. When he sees his friends being successful, he negs the fuck out of them while pretending to build them up and often attributing their success to his influence, in an effort to make himself look superior. Oh, and one time he was part of a group of fans that put together a pretty awesome reading garden with Sean Astin, but that happened more in spite of Andy than because of him.

Yet he has the nerve to say that his family admires the "status quot [sic]", that they live in "devout mediocrity", that they are "content with doing being and pursuing nothing".

They have all accomplished great things. And they worked for them. Andy is more than happy to work his ass off for something that he thinks will get him a lot of recognition and attention, fast. He is not willing to work on something from the ground up, to build a career gradually over time as his parents have done, or to strive for the greater good as a small part of a larger team effort as his sister has done. Andy wants it all, he wants it all about him, and he wants it now. I would like to think that his recent efforts to get into art school mean that this has changed to some degree, but I'm not holding my breath.
