continued Thatfucker discussion

Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

I still laugh whenever I remember that time Andy actually for-real claimed that his evil twin did it.

He's just... so outrageous. I think that's why people honest to god can't look away. Everything he does is so unbelievable, so brazen, that we're all just desperate for him to be caught red-handed so he'll finally just STOP. It irritates me that there are people ANYWHERE who believe his lies. But then I remind myself it's much more difficult to see what's really happening when you're only seeing bits and pieces at a time, and it's human nature to believe someone when they tell you something. It's only when you go back and review the evidence all at once that his lies and manipulations become glaringly obvious.

Like the MCU roleplay asks. At first, a lot of us took it at face value but looking back, and reviewing it all as a whole, it is SO obvious that it was just Andy again looking to deflect from the DAYD nonnies speaking out. I was a little disappointed in myself that I didn't arrive at that conclusion immediately, but I don't think I'll make that mistake twice. The whole situation is very Andy; he has used this very tactic over and over again in the past. I can't believe he still thinks people are going to fall for it. Like I said, he's outrageous.

I saw the Scientology doc recently and a similar point was made -- they don't start you off with all the crazy shit about Xenu and thetans and 75 million years ago, because people would go "What the hell?" and just walk. But if it happens after you've been in this tight environment for years and poured in energy and money and it's your life and family....it's a lot harder to get any perspective.

In fact, they tell believers the opposite: that they shouldn't believe and should be skeptical, but if it works, hey, might as well use this "technology" and go with it. So they become invested in bettering themselves and once they are in too deep belief starts seeping in and being required.

I think Andy is similar: at first, it is all, of course it is just fiction, just enjoy and have fun with my work, ignore the lies, not relevant to the enjoyment of the thing. Then he drops hints of, but doesn't it "feel" real? it can't all be fake, I'm not that clever, etc. once you are invested, you stop noticing the little things, then the big things.

DA

This, this entirely. I know some of the people on ffa are tired of hearing about him/seeing threads about him, but I will admit I can't get enough. It's all just *so* outrageous and it JUST KEEPS COMING. Often, I think that someone should write a short story/book based on him. But no one would believe it--it would be one of those things you'd snort at in disgust as being unbelievable. Well, in this world anyway. Set in on another planet/fictional society, maybe then.

SAME. God, I'm so tired of people whining about "omg y do u have to talk about him every post?!?!" Well, why do you have talk about Dragon Age or Things You Wouldn't Admit Unanon or the other hundred thread topics I couldn't give a shit about? If you keep the thread self-contained, what's the problem? Scroll on by, please.

(The mods I'm more understandable of, since they have to read it all to make sure wank doesn't explode. Regular nonnies, tho, can go eat a dick.)

I can't wait for Abbey's book -- if she still plans on writing it. Because one, I'll get to support her in a meaningful way, and two, awareness of Andy's abuse of people in fandom will reach a wider audience and there'll be far less dark corners for him to hide in. Oh, the schadenfreude.
