continued Thatfucker discussion

Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Because the fantasy is that it's all real. LARP by it's very nature invalidates that. I'm going to sound like a total sociopath saying this, but I cannot stress enough how different the experiences is, and how unsatisfying it is in comparison. To people like Andy (and myself when I was younger), it's a bland replacement for what you really want.

You can't make it real. Convincing others (or yourself, for a while, in a bizarre sense where you still know that it isn't) is the next best thing.

LARP is a bronze medal.

This must be why Andy just kept on telling me lies, even though I'd made it perfectly clear that I didn't care if he was lying. I've always wondered about that: why bother lying to someone who has told you they don't give a damn that you're lying about their past?

But I guess that wasn't the right answer. He wanted me to play along, not just shrug. I must have been so unsatisfying.

Yeah, I'm guessing he didn't want you to just be okay with the 'truth', he desperately wanted you to believe the lies so he could carry on playing his twisted larp-adjacent game with you an unwitting player. You larp-blocked him.

Now I'm picturing him with a d20 next to the computer. "I tell her I'm me, sharing a body with myself... shit, a 2."

I'm just looking over my facebook conversations with him from when he was drawing a character for me (which turned into him outlining a whole plot for me, which of course I never used), and it is suddenly embarrassingly apparent that he was dangling all sorts of hints that he had paranormal skills, which I just ignored.
I need to cringe in horror for a while, and then go post them in the pit.

Thank you for sharing, anon.

Can I just say how happy I am that this comm is shaping up to be a fantastic resource for archiving and allowing people to safely share their experiences?

It's like headcanons or shipping in fandom. Many people are happy if they share their headcanon or ship with you and you tell them you find it cool even if you don't share it. But there are some extreme fans who are not happy until you agree that their headcanon or ship is The Only Right One, and you constantly discuss It and only It with them.
