Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

To be honest, that's what I'm thinking. He's in MCU fandom already, has a few fics up and will start on an epic after AOU is out.

Is anyone else fairly convinced/suspicious that this is what's happening? I've been suspicious ever since he started dropping hints he's into MCU (which I believe, for reasons other nonnies have pointed out, is a perfect fit for him and what he likes to do); and since his tumblr went pretty quiet and he started claiming the obvs bullshit "too busy, real life, etc.". My suspicions exploded, though, when he started deleting things like the DAYDverse comm. I can't see him getting rid of that comm/starting to take down his fics unless he felt he had something better to replace it with.

This is getting really disconcerting.

I don't understand why he would be dropping hints though. If the purpose of abandoning the ThanFiction identity is to get away from people who know about his past, why tip them off instead of just quietly slipping away? Can he really not resist the attention? Conversely, if the plan is to tip off DAYDians and take them with him, the idea that he's going to be able to keep a lid on his history seems unlikely.

Perhaps dropping those hints was a way for him to draw out potential targets he can then approach once he's already moved into the fandom, idk. It's possible, too, that the hints weren't intentional and that he can't stop himself from blabbing because arrogance, and Andy.

You know how Andy jumps into ridiculous, long-winded explanations when he's criticized?

It's similar to that. It's this weird need has to have an explanation for everything and run his mouth about it. If he was smarter, he wouldn't post essay-length confessions that can be picked apart for lies, or email random people with "the real story", as he did with CA.

So he posts that an email from LJ "reminded him" that he needs to delete his own journals, and his career demands he take down all his porn. It's pretty fucking transparent, but then again, a lot of his lies are even stupider and more brazen than that.

I'm thinking he might be changing fandom, yes, but not to go into MCU. The hints are a false lead IMO. I think he's trying to keep our attention focused on the MCU fandom, while he's settling into a completely different one.

I'd be willing to bet that it would be a Western-based book, movie, or tv show fandom; I don't think he's ever shown any interest in any Eastern-based canons. While I wouldn't completely rule it out, I'd also guess that he wouldn't go for a video game fandom, since it would take so much time and effort to consume the canon. I've noticed he also takes to canons involving some kind of fantastical element (only exception to this I can think of is Hornblower?) that have large-to-mega fandoms surrounding them.

I'm genuinely surprised he's never tried to get into Dr. Who.

I'd say not only Western, but in English. He needs to be able to deconstruct the canon itself in order to properly work his ~word magic. With a canon in a foreign language, he would be dependent on translators, and people could argue that the translation he's using is not quite right. That wouldn't do. As a matter of fact, has he ever touched any translated canon?

Regarding video games: doesn't Megan play video games? Still though, I don't think he'd be interested in most modern video games, because of the multiple ways they can be played. He likes to set himself up as the ultimate interpreter of canon, so canon has to be fixed in the first place for him to do that.

I know he watched Doctor Who and he did that picture of River Song, but yeah I'm surprised he didn't get more involved.

Could be because a) there's too much canon for him to go through and then be able to say he 'barely skimmed it' or b) because men in DW fandom aren't exactly rare. He couldn't be as much of a special snowflake.

His joined his last two fandoms well after their peak. Maybe it's something less booming than MCU.

Someone said they saw him hinting toward Dragon Age fandom. Which DEAR GOD PLEASE NO. Bioware fandom is already completely and totally fucked up. Otoh, it's also pretty incestuous, so I doubt he'd be able to hide there long.

It would have to be something with serious slash potential, but Andy doesn't seem drawn to things that actually have male characters kissing each other canonically, so that also (hopefully) would be a mark against him going for Bioware. I'd guess Sherlock or Hannibal.

Now you're just making me think the Dragon Age thing is true ;_;. Because it has all those things in spades.

Though again... I don't think he could hide long in it. Also, it would require he play computer games, and though I have no evidence for this, I feel like that would be rough for him. There would be the possibility of losing.

Yeah, the only thing that makes me hesitate to say DA is what was pointed out above about there being too many possible "canons". He wouldn't be able to be the ultimate arbiter and pull the "mine is even truer than JKR's/Tolkien's, I know the ~real story~" act with DA because everyone can create their own canon.

And a lot of the characters I would imagine him projecting on actually don't work because of their non-heterosexuality -- Zevran and Iron Bull, and mayyyyybe Fenris, seem closest to his "type", but they aren't nearly straight enough, and furthermore Fenris has the anti-mage thing that, if he went the lazy "mage oppression = [ISM OF YOUR CHOICE]" route, which of course he would, makes him ~problematic~. I could maybe see him latching onto Cullen, being the soldier who began his training in childhood and has dark past trauma, but he's not sexual enough in general. Blackwall could go either way -- I could see Andy either taking the same approach to him as he did Snape, and making him into some kind of cartoonish cowardly sneering villain, but I could also see him latching like crazy onto his arc as a way of selling his own "redemption" story. Interestingly, Cassandra might actually be closest to his type, but that would require him to take a female character seriously for more than thirty seconds.

...oh god, Varric. He's not physically Andy's type at all, but oh god, the snarky storyteller with the fucked-up family issues who secretly and subtly protects his little clique in Kirkwall and makes a lousy spymaster because he ~cares too much about his people~? Oh, god, no. Oh god, Andy, keep your grubby little paws off of the dwarf.

He's written a little about GoT and reblogged some things, but nothing more than that. I don't think I've ever seen him mention Black Sails.

Oh god, I sorta know one of the actors in Black Sails personally. That would be creepy on a whole new level.

It also doesn't seem to be a nearly big enough fandom for him if he wants to be able to disappear into it right now.

I don't know about the "serious slash potential" part. That would depend on how he intends to proceed to get into that new fandom (if he hasn't already done so). In SPN, he mostly did Destiel meta, but in HP, he wrote DAYD, which contains mostly het pairings.

DAYD contains mostly het pairings, and yet it is phenomenally slashy. Neville kisses Draco on the mouth and muses about how he tastes of expensive cognac, for instance. Thanfiction also wrote a one-shot of Neville and... I think Seamus. Which played up how much better it was to kiss boys than girls. And he wrote Terry and Michael (iirc) as obvious romantic partners while insisting loudly they were 100% straight and silly girls just couldn't understand brodude no-homo love.

Oh, he sure knows how to play up the slashiness, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. But a few kisses here and a one-shot there don't mean he could write an entire opus about a gay couple. He's very good at pretending to be all-inclusive (I learned on this comm that he wrote a DAYDverse one-shot about the sexual life of two amputee characters, for example), but he's still fundamentally gender-essentialist at heart. I can see him having slash side-pairings in a big fic about a main het pairing, but not more than that. Just my opinion, though, obviously.

It's weird because I definitely remember a piece of truly horrific art of his with Charlie fucking Draco. Or as it is tagged in my bookmarks "draco giggles as zombie charlie says HUUUUURKKKK"
