continued Thatfucker discussion
Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!
The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.
ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Re: Channeling questions
DID/MPD gets affiliated with a LOT of weird cultshit. Back in the 80s and 90s, it was mostly shrinks running the cults, and they were often associated with UFO abduction and past life regression. Far as I can tell, it was the coming of the Internet that let the multis themselves get in on the business and take it over, morphing it into the fandom/New Age cults that we associate with people like Andy Blake and the FF7 folks today. (It also helped that MPD/DID's fad status as a diagnosis declined.)
If you want to learn more about the pre-Internet multi cultshit, Margaret Singer goes into it in Crazy Therapy, and you have a freakin' BOATLOAD of Satanic Ritual Abuse scandal books. (I unfortunately don't have the stomach for most of those, so can't give recs.)
So it IS kinda connected to my diagnosis, but I feel it's mostly an extension of cult behavior that's been going on for decades and morphs with the times, rather than, "Oh, DID makes you want to run cults and fight undead shaman wizards." That said, it infuriates me how many abusers share my diagnosis, and I see it as part of my job as an educator to warn others about them.

I've never gotten that impression that a large portion of these people have actually been diagnosed with DID/MPD. I HAVE gotten the impression that these people are lying about shit/playing pretend/utilizing certain religious beliefs in order to fuck with people, as Andrew Blake does.
Satanic Ritual Abuse scandal books.
Just so we're clear for those who don't know: Satanic Ritual Abuse has been almost entirely debunked as a case of moral panic/mass hysteria. Think "The Crucible", but set in the 1980's/early 90's:
