continued Thatfucker discussion

Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Andy knows Captain America better than you

I was looking up some dates on Thatfucker's tumblr and was surprised to see that he's made MCU-related posts as early as October 2012. I was less surprised to see that he apparently tried to make himself the authority on Captain America. Even less surprised to see that he tried to make people to contact him to get information about what kind of person Steve Rogers really is.

I just spoke to my grandfather’s bingo buddy, Retired Army Lieutenant R. L. from the previous quote about Steve’s sexuality.

But for Steve, he’s a good guy. It’s an after marriage thing, and he’s got a war on. So yeah, he’s got less understanding of sex than a five year old who’s seen a Britney Spears video, and that doesn’t mean he’s not into girls. It doesn’t mean anything except that someone’s gonna have to sit him down and soon and I hope it’s not Stark, ‘cause he’d give that poor kid too much shit he don’t deserve. And oh yeah he’s a kid. They got…the actor they got…he’s too old. He’d be eighteen, nineteen, maybe twenty. That’s how it was. We were kids. And he’s a kid, how he talks, how he thinks. He’s good at it in the eyes, though. He’s got the eyes. I knew kids with those eyes.”

I swore to take some stuff to the grave, and I didn’t mean most of the way.”

How the hell does Andy not realize this whole steaming pile of bullshit (excuse me, whole steamin' pile) sounds exactly like him? Because the Britney Spears and cheesy death-before-dishonor lines are such fucking Andy-isms. This reads exactly like something out of the DAYDverse.

I don't understand how even Andy managed to miss all those STD videos the WAR OFFICE used to put out. What does he think those were for, exactly?

He also thinks it's an ultra-soldierly manly army thing to live in complete squalor because boys don't clean lulz. He knows far less about war or army life than the average person because he simply does not notice anything that doesn't fit his preconceptions.

HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA

My dad served in the Army in WWII, my husband was in the Navy, I had some friends who went to the Naval Academy and others in the Marines and while they didn't go full-on Martha Stewart or anything, they could all dust, make beds, iron and fold clothes, polish shoes and fucking sew better than I ever could. DID ANDY NEVER SEE A MOVIE ABOUT BASIC TRAINING FFS.

That annoyed me SO MUCH because my dad who served in WWII used to tell us anecdotes about the "sex ed" (i.e. "VD IS SCARY") films the recruits had to watch. I also truly don't think a WWII vet would reference Britney Spears talking about that timeframe. Not that they wouldn't have ever seen one, possibly, but it just rings so false that it wouldn't be some kind of contemporary example like "blue movie" or "stag film" or whatever.

+1

And I find it highly suspect that a WWII vet would be talking about 'Steve and Stark' when referring to Captain America and Iron Man and not talking about, y'know, the old propaganda comics. It's just such a tumblr character-analysis post and while I'm sure there are old people who are into fandom like that, like the old school Trekkies who wrote 'zines and stuff, I just can't see what must be an octogenarian talking about a character they probably know best through morale-boosting pulp comics like that.

Andy only ever writes about Andy. Everything he's ever said or written about any character was in fact about him. It's not that his version of Steve sounds like him; it's that he inserts himself into Steve, just like he did with Neville, Seamus and everybody else in DAYD.

Another part I find very interesting is this:

I hope it’s not Stark, ‘cause he’d give that poor kid too much shit he don’t deserve

Remember how Andy was completely unable to grasp Snape's morally ambiguous character in HP? Looks like he's doing it again here with Tony. There was also another link posted where Andy quotes a friend arguing that Tony is a cynical Gryffindor, and I think it's telling that Andy doesn't explicitely say that he agrees with his friend. This may well have been when and how he started getting a better handle on this "morally ambiguous" concept.

Is it a coincidence that it's also about the same time when he changed his own story from "I never did anything wrong!" to "Yes, I did bad things, but I always meant well"?

Oh god, there goes my secondhand embarrassment. He's not even trying; it's just so obvious he pulled this out of his ass or more likely the astral plane.

Excuse you, the astral plane is so 2003. Andy's most recent line is that Harry Potter and DAYDverse (and presumably this imaginary elderly veteran) are all real and exist in our universe. He just has access to their thoughts and memories. Or something.

Motherfuckin' astral planes are way too mainstream for Andy. He was totally into this plane of reality before it was cool.

He often used to (and probably still does) use a computer as a metaphor. His body was the hardware, and the different channeled souls were just different hard drives being plugged in.

"He’d be eighteen, nineteen, maybe twenty. That’s how it was. We were kids." Excuse you buddy my grandfather was into his mid-20s when he served in WW2.
