continued Thatfucker discussion

Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!

The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.

ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Every single decision we made was after checking with his father for advice on what to do because of his extensive medical background.

His first advice WAS to go to the ER, but he commended Andy for draining it first, because it's what he would have done too.

So which is it? You two consulted with Andy's father on every action before doing it (including draining the abscess, which, why didn't Andy's father do it, then?) OR Andy drained the abscess, then retroactively got approval from his father as the best course of action?

Any way you slice it, if Andy's father has extensive medical experience, you'd think that he would be the best choice to deal with the abscess, or at the very, very least, he should have been supervising.

People do dumb things in medical crises. That doesn't concern me. I can understand that lots of people try to drain alarming bumps and lumps before getting medical attention. What bothers me is the spin to make this part of the Andy is a Savior narrative, where he clearly made The Right Choice and Saved Your Ear, and the shifting in who said what when throws up red flags for me.

I'm glad you're on the mend, Meg. I'm glad it turned out well for you. I'm not so glad that, when you should be relaxing and recovering, you're spending time here in a stressful environment spinning things for Andy.

That and he has a history of claiming more medical knowledge than he actually has, and hurting people in the process, like his DAYD hiking buddies.
