continued Thatfucker discussion
Since we've been kicked off FFA for the week, please feel free to continue the anon discussion here. Apologies if this is a big flop - I've never made a DW community before!
The rules are vaguely the same as they are over on FFA. Please refrain from being too much of an asshole, making personal attacks, posting identifying information or engaging in transfail.
ETA: If there's information you'd like to see archived (journal/blog posts related to Andy, etc.), please dump it here and link to it from the main post for discussing.

Re: Social Justice Points
(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)"No" comes screamingly to mind at that thought not because the co-play is 'revealing' but because it is a house of worship.
A holy space not the background to be used in a photo shoot.
I don't care if he and his partner go in in full burkas to take photos.
It is a sacred space and what he wants to do trivializes that in ways I can not even articulate.
Now maybe the church he grew up in allowed people to set up photo shoots and the like but I know that mine would not and we have some lovely frescos and magnificent mosaics in our church.
I don't think he is 'concerned'. I think he bloody well knows that is a line that he is crossing and he wants someone to pat him on the head and tell him that he is not a bad person for thinking such thoughts.

Nah, he will call PR departments of some other sacred places because Tumblr said it's not offensive to ask.
(I am an anon who pointed out various non-religious places you can safely shoot in, that could have more interesting interiors, and I don't get why he would insist on shooting in a mosque if he can go to big city and find some place that would be much easier to get into and way less offensive).

(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)Wow he is really pandering for asspats.
Why is he so insistent that its some weird thing for an American Muslim to know about a massively popular American HBO series???

Re: Social Justice Points
(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)This is what I don't get. Leaving aside how sketchy it is to use an actual place of worship as a set for a photoshoot, why that place of worship? There's nothing about it that just screams GoT to me to begin with.
Re: Social Justice Points
(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)Actually, after thinking for a bit, I realized that the only answer is that he once again tries to tie together fandom and social issues. Now by trying to appeal to Muslims. I wonder what will be next.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-12 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)Yes, my thoughts exactly. My very liberal, urban Reform synagogue (where, in the summer, when it's largely lay-led services with a dozen people, several of those people will be in jeans) doesn't allow any photography in the sanctuary itself. Even b'nei mitzvah's parents aren't allowed to take pictures in the sanctuary, and they're not just there because it will add an ~exotic flavor~ to their kids' cosplay. It's not about the clothing. It's about the fact that it is incredibly disrespectful to treat a real religion as nothing more than a prop for your fannish fun.
Of course, given that Andy views real people themselves as little more than props for his own personal fun, I should hardly be surprised that he might view real people's religion as the same.
As someone else pointed out in the thread, there are plenty of places that would not only be more appropriate but might well look more interesting anyway. It's such a lazy, transparent performance of Sensitivity.
