New apologist blog

I just noticed this new tumblr today and it makes me very angry as someone Andy tried to manipulate.

To clarify my anger, though I cut him off pretty early in our relationship, he still did emotional and professional harm to me & my friend groups.

I don't know if this blogger is trying to stir some us vs them shit to open wounds, or if they honestly only consider physical harm to be dangerous, but I'm side-eyeing it hard.

Yeah, it’s so ridiculously over the top to ~make his own pemmican~ instead of, IDK, buying jerky.

Also, the television show was the first one, I believe, that Andrew was into publicly.

Facebook DAYDian again. I've finished going through the stuff Andy wrote for DAYD (at least, the stuff I could find) and something stuck out to me - that '4'11 girl in full decora lolita who cursed Andy out in English, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese'? Sounds almost exactly like how he'd describe DAYD's Susan Bones (tiny, likes lolita fashion, 'totally badass'*?). In his 20 Random Facts about her, he said she buys most of her clothes online from small Japanese retailers and that she prefers lolita clothes because the childishness unsettles people**. She also learned Japanese as a language requirement for one of her magical degrees (MAGIs).

* = His Susan isn't but he likes to write her as if she is.

Well the news that it was Necromommycon behind the Thanfictioning Andy defense blog is just depressing as fuck.

To the Anon who kept questioning her integrity:

You were right and I was wrong. I'm sorry.

I'm furious. How DARE she manipulate and lie to so many abuse survivors who trusted her?

Nonnie, how do we know this? Thanks in advance.

SA. My apologies; teablogger.

Wow. Just... wow.

I'm so mad. I'm the anon who posted the blog because I found it in search (I wanna even say it was tagged, please correct if I'm wrong). I shot off an Ask asking to clarify what they considered "dangerous," & questioning their motives because it just smacked of someone infatuated with Andy to the point where they are unwilling to see abuse for what it is. I went offline for the weekend and came back to this. Just utterly disgusting.

I am that anon, and thank you. I hope you all realise now my concerns came from a very fucking genuine place.

there were great big glaring red flags all over her behaviour from the start of her involvement. people willfully chose to ignore them. getting abbey and adorkablegrrl to back up her apologism was probably her biggest coup in terms of pushing her andy redemption narrative and no one questioned that...

... that it took for this to happen for people - many of whom repeatedly talk about being wise to manipulative assholes - to wake up disturbs the fuck out of me. less reactive responses "it MUST be andy!" to people making highly reasonable criticisms of those who involve themselves in this might help preventing people like her gaining traction in the future. not all of us are troublemakers, some of us are rightfully very fucking concerned.

I appreciate your concern and deeply regret not giving it more weight this summer. I will say, though, that I disagree that Necromommycon raised "great big glaring red flags" from the time that she first became involved in Andy-blogging (2014). She never tried to hide that she had been friends with Andy, and from the time that she read about "fish skin rodeo" she appeared to be disgusted with his cruelty and angry that she'd misjudged him. She was consistently supportive of Abbey et al. after that. The 2015 fake-channeling comment was troubling, yes, but we didn't know that was her until she confessed to it three years later. The "Andy redemption narrative" is a much more recent development.

I've been digging through archives of her Carlanime and Necromommycon tumblrs, and while there are little things here and there that give me pause, that's only in hindsight. I have yet to find anything prior to this summer that makes me wonder why I didn't see this coming. And believe me, I am looking very hard.

I made a post saying I was side-eyeing Necromommycon for saying she liked Andy and that she didn't think he was deliberately malicious, and used Fish Tit Rodeo as the major example of his cruelty. Necromommycon screenshotted the post and put it on her blog and made a big show of how it was a reminder she needed to hear and she would take a step back to think things over. At the time I was reasonably impressed by her attitude: it always takes a lot to admit to an error of judgement without getting defensive...but now all I see is how performative and disingenuous a move it was.

Cassandra anon, I feel ya as someone else who was massively disconcerted with Necromommycon's behaviour and who tried to express it, but didn't do a very good job of it. I am ashamed to admit as soon as Teablogger, Abbey, Adorkable Girl and the rest spoke out in Necromommycon's defence I backed the fuck off, even though anything I said would have been anonymous! I wish I'd listened to my instincts -- and you -- more.

I saw the Thanfictioning blog before it was deleted. The posts were tagged.

DA For what it's worth, Teablogger, I agree with you and thought hateboner-for-Necromommycon was super over the top and aggressive at the time. Someone can be CORRECT without being CREDIBLE or appropriate in their approach.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-07 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
geeeee I wouldn't have been "aggressive" because people just were straight up ignoring - or DEFENDING - necromommycon's shoddy behaviour? maybe?? possibly??? survivors who are tired of having to shout over and over again to be taken seriously can reach a snapping point. you can say I wasn't "credible", but that's positioning the situation as starting with me. it didn't - it started with necro, and with the established trend in AA circles of treating anyone with a criticism as a minion of andy. my "aggression" stemmed from my anger at necro's total callousness and this community's willingness to ignore it and then behave like I was unreasonable and "a spy" for not ignoring it... and because everyone else agreed to ignore it, we were then blessed with a truly ghastly rape denial and a whole bunch of awful victim blaming. so uhhhhh, how much of an overreaction was it REALLY?

(Anonymous) 2018-11-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
it read as a sarcastic put-down to me, so I responded flippantly. but in all seriousness: yes, it was bloody hard to watch someone I could see had the potential to do big emotional harm to others be defended by people and to be accused of trouble-making for trying to say something about it.

(Anonymous) 2018-11-07 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Necromommycon was overly forgiving of Andy (such as saying he wasn't malicious, her Sluagh sporking was grossly over forgiving, and the fact she was still his friend) but I didn't think she was an apologist because she regularly spoke out against him. I think that's where a lot of people got tripped up, especially because it is possible to keep calling out friends who do terrible crap.
