Something about horror might be appealing to him (in the sense of supernatural influences, the feeling of danger, and whatnot), but also would be way too obvious and also hard to play.
"I'm a character who is undeniably good and fights on the side of the right, but unfortunately suffers from Things I Can't Control which can make me dangerous" (Bucky, Castiel, etc.) = easy to play.
"I am a morally grey character who does undeniably bad things like killing and eating people" (Hannibal, anyone from The Terror) = WAY harder to snooker people with.
Not only is Hannibal harder to use to manipulate people, but the hero of that series, Will Graham, is way too damaged and morally grey to appeal to Andy. Sure, Bucky was brainwashed but he still gets to be swaggering and cool and redeemed as an action hero... Will is manipulated at every turn.
Although, I just found out the other day that there WAS a Hannibal cult! Apparently Jen, the woman who ran the FF7 house, got her claws into Hannibal fandom eventually.
The site's been there for a while but I only heard about it after Fredrick Knudson's video on the FF7 house. (Which was a decent overview, but left out a lot. I used to be LJ friends with Icarus, the person who wrote the original warning site, that's actually how I got interested in cults, and, by extension, Andy's bullshit.)
I don't have trouble believing the FF7 House people showed up in another fandom, but that whoever is running that site isn't really helping their own case. Yikes.
Yeah like... I can understand that the blogger behind it thinks that any gender transitions or dysphoria the victims are having is a result of the abuse, but it might not be! And even if it was, that's not for them to decide, so all those quotation marks and general transphobia is just a real bad look and distracts from the actual issue of "is Jen abusing people" the same way genderwank about Andy becomes a smokescreen.
Maybe I've been spoiled by Abbey and Teablogger's meticulousness and writing skill, but the whole site is a bunch of garbled writing with more transphobia and weird anti-SJW ranting than receipts.
(ayrt) It seems like the writer is real invested in Hannibal fandom drama (the ship wars got real nasty a few years ago, and I have heard they are still nasty in some pockets of tumblr) and that is getting mixed up in her chase for Jen/Tattle-Crime, hence her accusations of a "Bryan Fuller cult" when that's really just ship wars and fandom mean girls spiraling out of control.
The forum is even messier! The person documenting Jen starts lashing out at other people in the thread for not "helping." It's my impression that the blogger is/was close friends with someone she considers a victim and is trying to find them and is extremely frustrated by the whole thing, so her anger is getting misdirected.
After searching a little further, I'm leaning towards the idea that her friend intentionally ended their friendship and she can't deal. Holy SHIT this is some f_w/unfunny_business material.
AYRT: Yeah, having looking through the forum it's just as confusing. I kinda wish Icarus (who ran the Fandom-Warning site) would look into this and update his site, but it seems like he's moved past his involvement with the whole ordeal and he has no obligation to get involved again.
