He already did! Or at least, the grandchildren of several major Confederate figures. There was a Lee, a Pickett, a Forrest, a Jackson, a Stuart, a Hill, and a Longstreet. Off the top of my head. I've written about that before although I don't have a link handy. -KQ
Oh my God, somehow I missed that one. I knew he had a thing for the Confederacy but I didn't know he'd already channeled them (or their relatives, anyway). Oh, that's priceless.
This little detail always gives me the coldshivers. I used to have such a pointless crush on Longstreet, and to a lesser extent J. E. Stuart, and I can just imagine my younger self being vulnerable to this angle.
I do remember that post. And I remember thinking his take reminded me of the film Gettysburg much more than any genuine interest in the true history of the Confederacy.
That "reluctant Lee before the battle" scene must have been catnip to him.
I, on the other hand, jumped in here with my interpretation and should learn to just shut up, sometimes. Not everything must be interpreted through a pop culture filter.

Naw, I'm sorry when I make a mistake. I'm not perfect! I haven't shared a lot about that WWII/second civil war/x men timeline so I assumed I'd missed another permutation. There's no big secret about that timeline, it's just novel length and I have a life 😁
