KQ here. I think people misuse the term cult of personality when they actually mean secular cult. Most people are only familiar with religious cults.

I think this is exactly it. There are probably a couple instances of it on my blog because it seemed like that was becoming an accepted usage a couple years ago when people started talking about Jared Leto's following--but "secular cult" is definitely more appropriate.
