Oh yes, that was his Tumblr profile pic for a while wasn't it?
What was the connection between Andy and Peeta? I don't think he was a character that Andy obsessively focused on in the way he did Elijah/Neville/Seamus/Misha/Mollymauk etc, but I seem to recall either KQ or TB drawing the comparison between the two but can't remember why.
I don't think he ever made the comparison himself. IIRC, back when Hunger Games was a highly active fandom, KQ mentioned in a blog post that she personally disliked the character (and other shattered, tortured woobies like him) because he reminded her so much of the kind of storylines Andy would try to embody. Nothing deeper than that, either - just a quick "ugh, I can't with this character for personal reasons" post.
I definitely see what she was saying. Peeta is a good, brave person turned against his will and through no fault of his own into a weapon that hurts his loved ones, in particular his romantic partner. He isn't responsible for any of the fear and hatred he shows Katniss; because it's all from the brainwashing, we feel bad for HIM when he attacks her. We get to see him fighting against his programming to be the person he was before, with limited success, and we understand that it will be a lifelong task, that he will always be fragile and broken and require extra patience and love.
I'm personally fine with the broken sadboy type in fiction, Peeta included, but I haven't had to deal with an abusive prick larping this exact scenario through various fandom characters, OCs, and OC versions of fandom characters as a way to exert control. I'm just a thatfucker observer from way back.
Nicely summed up, anon. Missed the OP but that's pretty much exactly it, plus some extra shades of how it made Katniss a bit of a villain for not appreciating Peeta properly. Finnick is another character that fits Andy's style.
Andy has a handful of stock characters he just dresses up in a new outfit for each fandom (sometimes he combines them) Tortured sadboy woobie. Wholesome uneducated salt if the earth who bravely endures tragedy. Tormented artist who is a playboy that may also be bisexual. The one with the horrifying history of sexual abuse. The unexpectedly brilliant self taught cook. The amusing borderline racist caricature who's cultural misunderstandings hide what a fearsome warrior he is.
