Warning: Disgusting picture of a really filthy sink.

Thanks for digging this up, nonnie. As for the picture of the sink, maybe I need to look closer, but to me it just looks like someone took a shave and didn't rinse it out properly. It doesn't look like flies to me, but perhaps it is.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it looks like someone sprinkled dust on that sink. That's not what true mentally ill people who live in filth because of it mean when they refer to a "dirty sink". If your sink only needs a single wipe-around to clean, it's not "I can't take care of myself"-dirty.

Same for his room and desk. Look at the pic of the room:
- there's a laundry basket on the left with nothing in it
- there are no books stuffed haphazardly everywhere in the bookcase
- there's no pile of stuff on the top of the bookcase
- there are piles of stuff on the desk - but the desk is not accessible anyway! The big cushion-seat blocks the chair (and the door too apparently??)
- there's no leftover food anywhere. Or leftover food containers. Or dirty dishes, or paper plates.
- Most tellingly of all: there's only a single layer of stuff on the floor, and no path through it.

I'm the type of person Andy is pretending to be in these pics: unable to properly take care of my surroundings because of mental illness. These pictures have nothing to do with "filthy" in my eyes. They have to do with "Hollywood messy". I say they were staged.

Another mentally ill nonnie who struggles with maintaining her surroundings noticed all the same things.

He may be a slob, but that's not on the level of 'incapable of caring for oneself' that I associate with the most severe episodes of mental illness. At least in my experience.

FFS, I am not mentally ill (at least not diagnosed), but I don't keep my pens and markers in separate containers! I mean, there is not a single pen on the table with all the papers lying there. Even all of his pencils are in a cup.
And his table only has papers on it. I just looked across the room, and my desk is filled with so many things that are not supposed to be there. Including a coffee mug.

NA

This mentally ill nonnie is sad looking at Andy's room pictures. I thought my room was relatively okay right now, but it's still lots messier than what Andy's room seems to be. Oh well, at least I haven't blocked to door with random stuff yet...

YANA

Don't be sad. For one thing, like everybody's said, he's not mentally ill messy. He's just lazy and exaggerating messy. Your judgement of how neat or not your room is for you is probably a whole lot more accurate when you're not comparing yourself to him. If your room is messier than you think it should be and you can't bring yourself to clean it, then it's a good idea to look a bit closer into how you're feeling - but don't judge yourself by Andy standards, because his logic is not our Earth logic.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
That may be, although DAYD hike anon described Andy as filthy and WJ said he refused to clean up after himself. It may be more of an selfish, immature slob "filthy" than mental illness level of filthy, though.

He's not living alone, though. Considering everything else his parents have to put up with, I don't think they'd mind much picking up after him, cleaning up his messes (I'm thinking in the kitchen in particular), and possibly even cleaning his bathroom or having hired help come to do it. Also, Megan was already often as his place before she moved in, so she might have straightened things in his room whenever she was over. All of this is pure speculation of course, but the bottom line is that he's not living alone, so there are people to clean his mess anyway if needs be.

...well shit, all those things he doesn't have are things I have in my room right now. That's spooky. Though I did already know I was mentally ill. And I am at least trying to work on a lot of it. My desk is actually the least messy because I'm never there.

There is one tiny layer of papers on that desk and a METICULOUSLY organized plastic pen/pencil organizer immediately to the left. It doesn't even look dusty.

Unrelated and a month late, but:

Bless you, nonnie. Ive internalised a lot of shame regarding my inability to keep things clean (years of my parents telling me that if I couldn't do X, I'd never manage being a doctor, which is still a goal), and having you list those as symptoms of mental illness really helped me out today.

Re: Peter Pandy

I've never known fruit flies to congregate around a sink like that, or any area with no food source for that matter. I've seen a couple of drain flies hang around sinks, but they're usually in the bowl, not up around the top like that.

Something's fishy.

I notice he painted/blurred out the names of all his meds.

That's interesting, because normally Andy is the definition of TMI. On his tumblr alone he's posted his real name, his phone number, his address, his parent's names, his so-called mental health diagnoses, the "facts" that he was a sex worker and a rape victim, and a bunch of different versions of his entire life story. He's even described himself as abusive and a rapist.

So why the fuck would he care if people know what meds he's on?

Unless, you know, they'd reveal he's being treated for entirely different conditions than the ones he claims to have.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
That was exactly my thought upon reading that post.

I'm definitely not new to the Andy canon, but when/how does he claim to have been a sex worker?

They might not even be *his* meds. They might be his parents' meds. Or they might be his meds, but just the usual stuff people have: basic painkillers and so on. Or even vitamins for all we can see!

What's for sure is that if they supported his claims of being treated for schizophrenia, he wouldn't show-but-really-hide them like that. He'd be more than happy to display them front and center.

Re: Peter Pandy

Yeah, my immediate thought was that they're not actually his meds. Or maybe some of them are but they're the sort of things you get for non mental health reasons, like maybe he has a bottle of unused vicodin from some recent dental work and a mild thyroid condition that he takes meds for (I say mild because if it was severe we'd all know).

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That was my thought too. And it's so him, because if you say "well, he hasn't shown us his meds, he blanked out the details" anyone without context would have a (rightful) fit of OMG OF COURSE HE BLANKED IT OUT HE DOESN'T HAVE TO SHARE THAT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! It's just that, like so much else in the context of Andy, it's suspicious that he didn't.

TBH, it reassures me somewhat, because for a while I was worried that he'd managed to get some anti-psychotics from his docs and was stopping and starting them as he needed to in order to keep up his ruse - you only really see that instant reaction to not taking them that he describes when they're not needed, as the brain realigns itself in a hurry; if you do need them to keep your brain level they tend to titrate out slowly as they get used up.

It's just that, like so much else in the context of Andy, it's suspicious that he didn't.

I can see no reason why he wouldn't say which meds he takes if he were really psychotic. What people don't want to share when they hide their meds is their illness, not the meds themselves. If someone has lithium in their medicine cabinet, and doesn't want people to know that they are bipolar, then it makes sense to blank that detail out. But once you've shared your diagnosis, the meds themselves have no more meaning than if they were aspirin for headaches. They don't reveal anything new, so there's no reason to hide them.

On the other hand, if he pretends to be psychotic, but doesn't have any anti-psychotics in his medicine cabinet...

(Now that we've discussed this, anyone wanna take bets on how long it's going to take him to casually drop the name of some anti-psychotic in an unrelated post, or anything of the sort?)

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT Well, I don't generally share the specifics of what meds I'm on, even though I'm open (online at least) about my diagnosis. But the difference, to me, is what Andy will freely share and overshare.

(IDK, he hasn't taken the bait other times).

Yes, this, thank you! I knew I wasn't saying exactly what I meant, but I couldn't figure out what was missing. It's what you point out: he's constantly and freely oversharing. But suddenly, on this particular point, he stalls for no apparent reason. Many people knowledgeable about psychosis have pointed out that nothing in his psychosis narrative holds up, and he could easily introduce a shred of truth into it by simply sharing which meds he's taking. This is what he would do on any other topic, but he does the opposite on this one, going so far as showing a bunch of meds but hiding what they are. This only reinforces the idea that his psychosis narrative is a lie, which is an odd thing for him to do.

Already happened. He complained about craving carbs on Seroquel.
