the infamous sink full of flies/fridge full of maggots

Whoa, details/links on this?

Re: Peter Pandy

Maggots:

http://andythanfiction.tumblr.com/post/44061608236/when-did-you-realize-you-were-mentally-ill-when

I was evicted, having not bathed in weeks, my fridge a soup of maggots, no utilities, fired from my job.

Fruit flies:

Andy posted an image of a sink full of dead fruit flies as proof of his mental illness. Or something. Anyone have a link?

Can't find picture, but this:

http://andythanfiction.tumblr.com/post/90010101512/im-seriously-considering-asking-you-to-join-our

it’s a good week if I shower twice and change clothes three times and do laundry once a month, that my room is disgusting and there are literally hundreds of dead fruit flies on my sink and I don’t even know why and can’t make myself find out and it can take me three weeks to make a phone call or answer a text and I haven’t worked out in five months and the novel I love with all my heart is STILL on hold after three fucking years of swearing I’m about to finish it and my to-do list reads like damnation and a lot of other things that I’m just fucking ashamed of and no, I don’t really want to spread out in front of strangers.

It's important to remember the context of the "fruit flies" posts.

Andy was:

1. pretending to have schizophrenia

2. trying to get into a GISHWHES team, even though he had very badly abused the one he had been with the year before

3. blaming said past abuse on having suffered a psychotic break because he'd "forgotten" to take his meds in the flurry of tasks to fill.

In order to prevent another team from being victimized by him, those of the AA blogs who have knowledge regarding psychosis went on the offensive, and pointed out that the three items above mean that he should absolutely NOT do GISHWHES again so soon.

Somewhere in the discussion, they mentioned that it's not suspicious at all how he doesn't seem to have any of the usual functioning impairments that people with schizophrenia suffer from.

He then posted a collection of pics, including one where pill bottles can be seen, and another one of a sink with a handful of dead fruit flies in it. He also posted a request for someone to come and help him clean his place, which was supposedly in a terrible state.

And then there's the post mentioned here where he explains that his Speshul Snowflake Schizophrenia doesn't work like other people's schizophrenia. In particular, he can *totally* afford to do something which supposedly caused him to have a psychotic break a year ago, because this year it will be Good Stress instead of Bad Stress.

This was one of the rare battles that the AA blogs actually won. Andy didn't find a GISHWHES team. He *pretended* to, but the team he belonged to was not a registered GISHWHES team: it was just him and a couple of his friends doing a few items so he wouldn't have to admit defeat.

Wasn't there talk of Misha personally banning him? (And has anyone thought to drop Mark Ruffulo a heads up since Andy is looking at MCU and Mark is protective of the fans)

I've heard nonnies mention it but haven't seen any sources.

And I'm kind of adverse to the idea of preemptively warning celebrities about Andy. If we see any evidence that he's reaching out to Ruffalo? Sure, a heads-up with some relevant links would be appropriate. But I'd rather avoid pointing Andy out and getting him the (negative) celebrity attention before we know he's making moves.

Having had fruit flies because of you know really being mentally ill and cleaning being an issue sometimes -- fruit flies will be everywhere there is food. They will get into your fridge, your trash, every room you take food or drink into. If there is food in your sink they will go into your sink, but unless you've set up sugar-soap water bowls to try and kill them --they won't be in a empty sink (unless you haven't run your garbage disposal in while).

Maggots in the fridge? Nope. Not unless the power was turn off for a while. I have been finally cleaning out my fridge and even the really gross stuff in the very back? Maggot free.

I have had maggots in my trash once. But that was from meat in the trash can for...a while.

And it makes your depression worse and it makes you more ashamed and most people do not take pictures and tell the internet. I have used vague terms of my place being 'gross', but it's not -- ugh.

I've lived in a house with cockroaches and it's a literal would-never-admit-unanon thing because I still don't know if they were there because we lived on top of a cafe, if they were there because my housemate didn't clean his room, or if they were there because of me. And I wasn't even seriously mentally ill at the time.

Maggots in the fridge? Nope. Not unless the power was turn off for a while.

I worked at a wildlife center that attracted a fair number of flies. We got maggots in the garbage once or twice, but never, ever in the fridge... and it was not a clean fridge with food meant for human consumption. Nothing was out and out rotting, but we got old produce from stores and expired meat and disgusting-smelling eggs.

(I saw a fair number of maggots outside, though. When putting out raw meat for the animals in heat of summer, even if you collect the remains first thing in the morning the next day, you will see fly eggs if not maggots.)

Bringing it back to Andy: in order to get maggots in a fridge, you need an adult fly to actually get inside to lay eggs. Or you need to leave something out so long flies actually have a chance to lay eggs on it. Fly eggs are visible though, especially when they're in clusters. They look like tiny grains of rice stood on one end.

If the fridge is working, I'm not entirely sure it would be warm enough for the eggs to develop. You definitely wouldn't get maggots hatching in a working freezer.

Most fridges have a working magnet seal that prevents flies getting in even if the power's off. One would need to sneak in when the door was opened, or like I said, put food with fly eggs on it inside. Once they hatch, maggots move and grow very quickly and get ALL over the place.

I guess it's possible that a mentally ill person wouldn't notice or care, though.

Thanks for digging this up, nonnie. As for the picture of the sink, maybe I need to look closer, but to me it just looks like someone took a shave and didn't rinse it out properly. It doesn't look like flies to me, but perhaps it is.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it looks like someone sprinkled dust on that sink. That's not what true mentally ill people who live in filth because of it mean when they refer to a "dirty sink". If your sink only needs a single wipe-around to clean, it's not "I can't take care of myself"-dirty.

Same for his room and desk. Look at the pic of the room:
- there's a laundry basket on the left with nothing in it
- there are no books stuffed haphazardly everywhere in the bookcase
- there's no pile of stuff on the top of the bookcase
- there are piles of stuff on the desk - but the desk is not accessible anyway! The big cushion-seat blocks the chair (and the door too apparently??)
- there's no leftover food anywhere. Or leftover food containers. Or dirty dishes, or paper plates.
- Most tellingly of all: there's only a single layer of stuff on the floor, and no path through it.

I'm the type of person Andy is pretending to be in these pics: unable to properly take care of my surroundings because of mental illness. These pictures have nothing to do with "filthy" in my eyes. They have to do with "Hollywood messy". I say they were staged.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Another mentally ill nonnie who struggles with maintaining her surroundings noticed all the same things.

He may be a slob, but that's not on the level of 'incapable of caring for oneself' that I associate with the most severe episodes of mental illness. At least in my experience.

That may be, although DAYD hike anon described Andy as filthy and WJ said he refused to clean up after himself. It may be more of an selfish, immature slob "filthy" than mental illness level of filthy, though.

...well shit, all those things he doesn't have are things I have in my room right now. That's spooky. Though I did already know I was mentally ill. And I am at least trying to work on a lot of it. My desk is actually the least messy because I'm never there.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-26 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
There is one tiny layer of papers on that desk and a METICULOUSLY organized plastic pen/pencil organizer immediately to the left. It doesn't even look dusty.

Unrelated and a month late, but:

Bless you, nonnie. Ive internalised a lot of shame regarding my inability to keep things clean (years of my parents telling me that if I couldn't do X, I'd never manage being a doctor, which is still a goal), and having you list those as symptoms of mental illness really helped me out today.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
I've never known fruit flies to congregate around a sink like that, or any area with no food source for that matter. I've seen a couple of drain flies hang around sinks, but they're usually in the bowl, not up around the top like that.

Something's fishy.

Re: Peter Pandy

I notice he painted/blurred out the names of all his meds.

That's interesting, because normally Andy is the definition of TMI. On his tumblr alone he's posted his real name, his phone number, his address, his parent's names, his so-called mental health diagnoses, the "facts" that he was a sex worker and a rape victim, and a bunch of different versions of his entire life story. He's even described himself as abusive and a rapist.

So why the fuck would he care if people know what meds he's on?

Unless, you know, they'd reveal he's being treated for entirely different conditions than the ones he claims to have.

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-19 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
That was exactly my thought upon reading that post.

I'm definitely not new to the Andy canon, but when/how does he claim to have been a sex worker?

They might not even be *his* meds. They might be his parents' meds. Or they might be his meds, but just the usual stuff people have: basic painkillers and so on. Or even vitamins for all we can see!

What's for sure is that if they supported his claims of being treated for schizophrenia, he wouldn't show-but-really-hide them like that. He'd be more than happy to display them front and center.

Re: Peter Pandy

Yeah, my immediate thought was that they're not actually his meds. Or maybe some of them are but they're the sort of things you get for non mental health reasons, like maybe he has a bottle of unused vicodin from some recent dental work and a mild thyroid condition that he takes meds for (I say mild because if it was severe we'd all know).

Re: Peter Pandy

(Anonymous) 2015-04-25 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That was my thought too. And it's so him, because if you say "well, he hasn't shown us his meds, he blanked out the details" anyone without context would have a (rightful) fit of OMG OF COURSE HE BLANKED IT OUT HE DOESN'T HAVE TO SHARE THAT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! It's just that, like so much else in the context of Andy, it's suspicious that he didn't.

TBH, it reassures me somewhat, because for a while I was worried that he'd managed to get some anti-psychotics from his docs and was stopping and starting them as he needed to in order to keep up his ruse - you only really see that instant reaction to not taking them that he describes when they're not needed, as the brain realigns itself in a hurry; if you do need them to keep your brain level they tend to titrate out slowly as they get used up.
