And following it up with praise, as Molly says he did, makes it really hard to respond in any kind of meaningful way. It's a great way for him to cause harm in ways that he can claim were totally blameless, or even virtuous, after the fact.

Look at comments like "I don't know why people aren't attracted to larger women. What are you, like 250? 275? I mean, people would flip out if you wore a bikini in front of them, or maybe even shorts, right? But I think you're really pretty and it's so brave of you to come out in a dress like that. I really admire you." So he's highlighting the fact that society rejects the person he's talking to, but assuring them that HE doesn't feel that way. So they have no way to respond but to thank him for pointing out most people hate their body just because he tacked some praise onto it. And if they try to make this stop by saying they're uncomfortable or something similar, he can always fall back on "I'm just saying that you're beautiful to ME. It's a compliment. It's such a shame that most people don't like heavy girls - you haven't even been able to learn to take compliments!" Ultimately, a person ends up feeling crushed and defeated but also unable to pinpoint anything Andy did "wrong".

I also seem to recall a lot of really disturbing body horror content in his Harry Potter stories that only happened to women. Saying things designed to induce dysphoria/dysmorphia/body horror seems part and parcel of that sadistic fetish, only enacted psychologically on real
people rather than physically on fictional ones.

Not from Andy, but I've heard it.

I weigh 170 and am 5'11", so I'm assuming either these guys are deliberately guessing high so as to make me feel like I look even heavier than I am or else they have no idea what certain weights actually look like. It really doesn't work on me, as my doctor has assured me that I'm healthy and fit and my girlfriend regularly tells me I'm gorgeous without attaching any "to me" bullshit to it. But I an definitely imagine it working on a woman with lower self-esteem.

AYRT: True and it is pretty terrifying how many are there and with absurdly specific working methods. That friend I had (and was excellent enabler of) went through similar phases of: fandom (shared HP one with Andy), activism (LGBT which is how I met him), professional period of believing he is grand in things he got praised for (he is, just ... uses the skills pretty much like Andy), BDSM side-activism and then wiped all out. During each phase he was a guru for vulnerable people (that LGBT one came with proper political influence). He targeted young men more but he didn't hold women in high regards either. As far as I know he is not active in anything now but you never know...

I think it is partly pure machismo on his part - attack the perceived enemy but in a way they believe you never did or cannot respond plus your social circle will not see it as an offence. His post about transness had a lot of 'but I'm so much more macho than other men!' along with him writing about any queer topics or his looks (anything about his style had an addon of how stereotypical he is). The guys in question could have been ... too confident, not vulnerable enough or whatever else he seen as danger.

This is good advice. I would also add: stop expecting to parachute into ready-made social circles and have everybody immediately love you. Nobody likes it when people do that. Make friends in a new city like everybody else does: slowly, one at a time, through work or mutual interests that are actually mutual and not about whether they can introduce you to someone from Critical Role.

I think he honestly just doesn't really like other trans people very much. He has a complex about masculinity and gender roles that you can see from space and doesn't square very well with his The Greatest Ally schtick - as someone pointed out on ffa, his idea of masculinity is and always has been the absolute most unreconstructed aggressive He-Man posturing you'll ever see in your life.

He's been unsubtly hammering in how MANLY and STRAIGHT he is for years, and the way he treats trans people makes me think that beyond whatever scam he's running at the time, he personally and genuinely just doesn't like them and wants to make them feel uncomfortable in their bodies.

Guinea pigs, though. Holy fucking shit, he's a sociopath.

He'd never, ever allow any harm to come to his cats, but he'll buy hand-tamed pet guinea pigs from a pet store and slaughter them without any kind of special tools or ability to prepare them in a way that spares them pain. Can you imagine what that would have been like for his hosts?

NA

Which is illegal under California law, no less!

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=PEN§ionNum=598b

TITLE 14. MALICIOUS MISCHIEF [594 - 625c] ( Title 14 enacted 1872. )
598b.
(a) Every person is guilty of a misdemeanor who possesses, imports into, or exports from, this state, sells, buys, gives away, or accepts any carcass or part of any carcass of any animal traditionally or commonly kept as a pet or companion with the intent of using or having another person use any part of that carcass for food.

(b) Every person is guilty of a misdemeanor who possesses, imports into, or exports from, this state, sells, buys, gives away, or accepts any animal traditionally or commonly kept as a pet or companion with the intent of killing or having another person kill that animal for the purpose of using or having another person use any part of the animal for food.

If he wanted cuy so badly, he could behave like a reasonable person and source the meat in a responsible way.

He can order it online from https://www.exoticmeatmarkets.com, which sells dressed cuy for $39.99 apiece.

He can search ethnic food stores for frozen cuy, as per this article:

https://www.pri.org/stories/2014-07-23/how-guinea-pig-andean-delicacy-making-its-way-dinner-plates-us

After all, according to an NPR write-up from 2016, "one United States importer based in Connecticut is importing about two tons of frozen guinea pigs into the United States each month," and even if regulatory issues mean it's somehow impossible to find in southern California, I'm certain he could arrange to have some shipped to his address in L.A.

He could even call up or visit Peruvian restaurants to see if he could get a cuy hook-up that way.

Procuring cuy through any of these options still might be a misdemeanor offense in California, but it's so much better, safer, and less sociopathic than buying a living guinea pig from a pet store and inhumanely slaughtering it yourself in your host's backyard, a thing absolutely no reputable chef would ever do.

Also, apparently peacock meat is dry and unpleasant to eat.

http://coquinaria.nl/english/peacock/peacockbook.htm

It's also available online from https://www.exoticmeatmarkets.com, which claims their peafowl are are farm raised in California and processed in State inspected plants. So clearly there are poultry farms where he could buy peackcock meat rather than trying to catch and kill one or more members of the feral populations wandering around Los Angeles!!!

A California hunting license definitely doesn't cover peafowl as a non-migratory game bird, but even if it did, with the exception of a brief window for wild turkeys in the spring, hunting season for literally every other type of bird doesn't open until August at the absolute earliest.

http://www.eregulations.com/california/hunting/waterfowl/upland-game-bird-small-game-mammal-crow-hunting/

I just can't with this guy. It is definitely possible for him to prepare his original menu in an ethical, responsible way. I can't say "completely legal" because it's unclear to me whether California is making a distinction between guinea pigs raises as pets and cuy bred for meat, but regardless, it's obviously possible to source the meat in the state without immediately running afoul of the law.

Of course, expertly prepared cuy is stringy and peacock is dry, so even if he spent a ridiculous amount of money to get his ingredients in an ethical way, his guests would probably still prefer to eat tastier items like goose or pheasant or squirrel or rabbit. But why do any of that that when you could just double down on the exotic/shock factor and go to a pet store or wander the streets of Beverly Hills with a burlap sack and a big stick?! Flavor and ethics are for unimaginative suckers.

Did peas hurt TF when he was younger? Are peas responsible for his quote-unquote "heart condition"? Did peas turn him into a lesbian paladin? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO INNOCENT PEA SOUP.

Guinea pigs are an actual food source in South America, that's what they were original domesticated for. Eating one does not make one a sociopath.

...That said, wanting to buy animals from a PET STORE to eat, yeah, that's really fucked up, and possibly illegal. Certainly would get you banned from the store if the owner found out.

This menu reads like he read the blog of the lady who did the food for the Hannibal show and thought that using exotic ingredients = instant class and success. Instead it just sounds terrible. (That dessert makes my teeth hurt just reading about it)

Re: Teablogger updates

Anon, I know guinea pigs are descended from sandwich meat. I also know the ones sold in pet stores are not sold as food. Thanfiction's failure to know that "here's some meat from a pet store" would not horrify the fuck out of people is the sociopathic part.

Janice Poon! Her blog was so great. I've been wondering whether he ever ventures into horror fandoms. I hate to even post this, in case it gives him ideas, but there's a widely beloved character on "The Terror" who looks rather like him. Too much of a cinnamon roll to be his usual type, but the resemblance is strong enough that I wonder whether he'd be tempted.

Andy FAQ Facebook page

(Anonymous) 2018-06-25 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
TB has a brief update about Andy and his friends starting a Facebook account to defend Andy from all the "cyberbullying" and slander he's endured:

http://theteablogger.tumblr.com/post/175241612252/the-other-side

https://www.facebook.com/andrewblakefaq/

TB: Andy’s friends have created this page to tell their side of the story, to counter the “cyberbullying” they say he’s suffering, and to insinuate that Molly and her friends are lying about and/or wildly misconstruing what happened during Andy’s stay with her. You hardly even have to read between the lines to see that’s what they’re doing. From what they’ve written so far, it is clear that Andy hasn’t given his friends a complete and honest picture of what happened and why he was made to leave.

Honestly, guys, what I have shared from Molly is far from the worst of what he did and said. The Stickening and the planned CR dinner are both relatively innocuous and even kind of funny in comparison to the rest. But a number of third parties are involved in the other stories, and some of them understandably are not comfortable with the kind of attention that sharing could generate. I hate to be cryptic, but I think it’s important to make it clear that there were many more creepy and disturbing things going on than the public is currently aware of, while still respecting people’s privacy.
